The Place
If you are looking for where to eat near Varenna, Ristoro Esino Lario is a mountain stop worth the short climb from the lake: by bus or car, on foot along the old mule tracks from Varenna, or by bike through the Esino Lario valley.
No fixed tourist menu. The kitchen changes with what is available and prepares food in-house, from bread to pasta. Fresh tagliatelle are made with organic whole ancient grains; eggs and olive oil are organic, and the Parmigiano is Vacche Rosse. Not a shortcut-driven place, but a careful choice of ingredients.
The terrace faces the green Prealps. In winter there is a fireplace; in summer you can eat outside after a walk, a ride, or a day around Lake Como.
